Brenna is a first-year master’s student in the Cellular and Molecular Medicine program at the University of Arizona. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona in 2020. She worked for four years in clinical diagnostics as a medical laboratory scientist and later in industry as a research associate, developing immunohistochemistry companion diagnostics. She currently works at the Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory as a molecular technician, where she runs Real-Time PCR and Next-Generation Sequencing to diagnose animal diseases. Brenna became interested in genetics and medical research during her undergraduate studies and hopes to pursue a career in medical genetics, focusing on the etiology of genetic diseases and exploring potential treatments using cutting-edge technologies. Her long-term goal is to earn a PhD in genetics and continue academic research. Under Dr. Sadayappan's mentorship, Brenna will conduct her master’s thesis work. Outside of the lab, she enjoys reading, hiking, flying single-engine airplanes, and rock climbing.
Nick is a first-year master's student in the Cellular and Molecular Medicine program at the University of Arizona. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Sciences from the University of Arizona in May 2024. He has practical experience as a Veterinary Technician at Acoma Animal Clinic, where he handled tasks such as drawing blood, administering fluids, taking vitals, and assisting veterinarians. Additionally, he worked as a Lab Assistant at the ACBS Cryptosporidium Laboratory, processing samples and caring for calves. Nicholas is skilled in animal care, CPR certified, and proficient in software programs like AVI Mark and Microsoft Office 365. Nisha is a 2 nd -year student pursuing her master’s in public health specializing in Biostatistics from the Department of Environmental and Public Health at UC. She trained as a dentist in India and had a private practice before she moved to the US. Her future goals are to pursue a doctorate in Biostatistics. She is a student worker with Dr. Sadayappan. She assisted Dr. Song in the project to define the role of slow and fast myosin binding protein-C in skeletal muscle biology.
Brittany is a first year PhD student in the Molecular, Cellular and Biochemical Pharmacology Program with an interest in cardiovascular pharmacology. Her long-term goal is to be a physician-scientist discovering novel therapies for cardiovascular disease. Her research project at Sadayappan lab involves determine genotype- phenotype correlation and define the mechanism of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Alex Beiersdorfer received his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati in May 2016. He is currently in his first year of working on his Master of Science in Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, and Microbiology at the University of Cincinnati. He is working with both Dr. Sadayappan and Dr. Rosevear to complete his research for his thesis. Alex enjoys water skiing for the UC Waterski Club, snowboarding, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
